Generally, temperatures above 700°F are not indicated. For welding, these rods must first be heated prior to the operation and then annealed. The maximum corrosion resistance of our Type 420 Hex Bars is achieved when it is fully or completely hardened and the stress is released.
Stainless Steel 420 Hex Bars are composed primarily of 12-14% chromium, with higher carbon content (0.15-0.40%) compared to Alloy 410, providing enhanced hardness and strength. It also contains trace elements like manganese, silicon, and phosphorus. The mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 750-1150 MPa, yield strength of 205-450 MPa, and elongation of 12-18%. In the hardened condition, SS 420 offers excellent hardness, reaching up to 50 HRC, with good corrosion resistance. Its impact resistance is moderate, and it demonstrates excellent wear and abrasion resistance when hardened.
