Aluminium 5083 is an alloy made up of aluminium, magnesium, and manganese, typically featuring about 4.0–4.9% magnesium, 0.4–1.0% manganese, and 0.1–0.4% chromium. While this alloy isn’t heat treatable, it achieves its strength through cold working. It boasts excellent resistance to seawater and industrial chemicals. In terms of mechanical properties, 5083 forgings deliver tensile strengths ranging from 270–350 MPa and yield strengths between 150–300 MPa, with elongation rates of 10–20%, depending on the temper and section size. The alloy also retains good toughness and weldability, even under cryogenic conditions.

The forging of Aluminum 5083 enhances its corrosion resistance by refining its grain structure, improving its overall strength and resistance to saltwater corrosion, particularly in marine environments.
Aluminum 5083 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and formability, making it ideal for custom forgings in marine, aerospace, and other demanding applications.
Aluminum 5083 offers excellent workability, allowing for easy forging. Its high strength, good corrosion resistance, and moderate formability make it ideal for complex shapes while maintaining durability and structural integrity.
You’ll find Aluminium 5083 forgings in applications that demand a high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance, such as marine fittings, pressure vessels, offshore structures, vehicle armor, and cryogenic tanks. Their outstanding resistance to saltwater makes them particularly suitable for shipbuilding and coastal infrastructure. Moreover, their reliability in low-temperature environments and solid fatigue strength make them a go-to choice in both commercial and defense sectors. The blend of strength, corrosion resistance, and formability ensures that 5083 forgings excel in challenging structural and environmental conditions.
