What is Tool and Die Steel A2 Bars?

Tool and Die Steel A2 is a cold work air-hardening tool steel with around 1.0% carbon, 5.0% chromium, and minor molybdenum and vanadium. It provides a great balance of wear resistance, toughness, and heat treatment dimensional stability. A2 usually hardens to 57–62 HRC and maintains its hardness with minimal loss under prolonged use. Its air-hardening characteristic minimizes distortion and cracking and makes it particularly suitable for precise tools. A2 also has good machinability in the annealed state and possesses adequate toughness for most heavy-duty cold working applications.
