Semih Metals, based in Istanbul, Turkey, has earned a solid reputation as a reliable manufacturer and supplier of top-notch High Speed Steel (HSS) T42 bars. These bars are celebrated for their remarkable hardness, wear resistance, and cutting efficiency. With a strong focus on quality, precision, and the integrity of materials, Semih Metals crafts T42 bars specifically designed for the rigorous demands of toolmaking, machining, and metal cutting industries. Thanks to their advanced production capabilities and extensive metallurgical knowledge, the company guarantees that their T42 bars adhere to strict international standards, ensuring high-speed performance and long-lasting reliability.
High Speed Steel T42, also known as UNS T12008 or M42, is a cobalt-rich grade that primarily consists of carbon (~1.3%), tungsten (~1.5%), molybdenum (~9.5%), chromium (~3.75%), vanadium (~1.15%), and cobalt (~8%). This unique composition grants it exceptional red hardness, wear resistance, and edge retention, making it an excellent choice for high-speed cutting tools. After heat treatment, T42 bars achieve a hardness range of 66–70 HRC, along with impressive toughness and grindability. The alloy retains its cutting efficiency even at high temperatures, minimizing tool deformation and enhancing service life in demanding environments.

Yes, T42 Alloy High-Speed Steel Bars can be heat treated. They are typically hardened through heat treatment processes like quenching and tempering to enhance hardness, wear resistance, and performance.
Welding T42 High-Speed Steel Bars is challenging due to their high carbon content and hardness. If welding is required, preheating and post-weld heat treatment are often necessary to prevent cracking and ensure strength.
T42 High-Speed Steel Bars should be stored in a dry, cool environment to prevent rust and corrosion. They should be kept off the ground, ideally on wooden or plastic pallets, and protected from moisture and extreme temperatures.
T42 bars find extensive use in the production of precision tools like drills, end mills, taps, broaches, reamers, and gear cutters. They are particularly preferred in scenarios that require high cutting speeds and resistance to heat softening. T42 is perfect for machining tough materials such as stainless steel, titanium alloys, and superalloys, where conventional HSS grades might struggle. Its reliable performance under thermal stress makes it a go-to option for both roughing and finishing tasks in the aerospace, automotive, and die-making sectors, where tool reliability is crucial.
