Bars and rods of Super Duplex Steel are manufactured from a stainless steel alloy with a balanced microstructure of about 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. The alloy has high tensile strength, usually in the range of 800–1,000 MPa, along with superior toughness and ductility. Super Duplex steels have chromium (20-28%), molybdenum (3-5%), and nitrogen, all of which increase their resistance to localized corrosion, particularly in chloride environments. Their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are greater than conventional austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, and hence they can be used in demanding applications.
