Stainless Steel 455 is an ultra-high-strength, martensitic stainless steel alloy with about 0.45% carbon, 12–14% chromium, and minor amounts of manganese and silicon. It has excellent hardness and tensile strength, usually between 850 and 1,200 MPa upon heat treatment. The alloy is characterised by high resistance to corrosion in moderately aggressive environments and has good wear resistance and toughness. Stainless Steel 455 is also very machinable in the annealed condition and may be hardened by heat treatment to obtain superior mechanical performance.
